Chris Webber has announced his retirement from the NBA last wednesday at a press conference at the ORACLE Arena , closing the final chapter on a 15-year NBA career . Here is his impressive résumé :
National High School player of the year (1990-1991)
Retired #44 Detroit Country Day School
NCAA Men's Division I Basketball All-American (1993)
NCAA All Tournament 1st Team (1992, 1993)
NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship Finalist with the Michigan Wolverines ( 1992 & 1993 )
Selected by the Orlando Magic with the 1st pick of the 1993 NBA Draft , becoming the first sophomore since Magic Johnson to be a #1 overall draft pick .
NBA Rookie Of The Year with the Golden-State Warriors ( 1994) .
Five times NBA All-Star .
Five Times All-NBA Team Selections .
20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds , 4.2 assists , 1.44 steals , 1.44 blocks and 37.1 minutes per contest in 831 regular-season games with Golden State , Washington , Sacramento , Philadelphia and Detroit .
18.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 36.3 minutes per playoff-game in 10 playoff runs .
2002 Western Conference Finalist with the Sacramento Kings after setting a franchise record 61-21 .
But forget all those stats and awards and remember Chris was one of the best power forwards ever ... neither as flashy as Shawn Kemp , nor as regular as Karl Malone , but still one of the greatest .
I don't know if it was because he was native from the state of Michigan like Magic , but he showed many times how gifted were his hands and how good was his court vision , blessing fans with unbelievable actions , every game .
And let's not forget he and the Fab Five were the originators of the baggy shorts under the knees , and the black socks with black sneakers .
For this amazing career , we salute you , Chris !
