The Supreme NTM , probably the most recognized Rap group in France , is back . Created in 1988 the group is mainly composed of two incredible MC's JoeyStarr & Kool Shen , both born in the "département" of Seine-Saint-Denis also named after its zip code the 9-3 ( Le neuf trois ).
The group has instantly found success on the ever growing french hip-hop scene . With lyrics againt racism and social differences , the duo quickly became the voice of the ghetto , relying the violence of the french ghetto . Accused of lobbying for violence & riots , they later decided to address a message of peace to the youth , like in "Pose Ton Gun" (Leave you gun).
They eventually ended the group career in 1998 with their latest album under their own label , each member creating a crew and a streetwear brand (2 High for Kool Shen , Com8 for JoeyStarr) .
In 2001 they promoted a "duel" between both crews , but without the same success .
The group is recognized for its realistic lyrics , dark and sometimes violent , but also for the contrast between both MC's , JoeyStarr using a slow flow , with a deep agressive voice , and Kool Shen delivering clever or more poetic words with a quicker rythm .
For information the name « NTM » comes from the slang "Nique Ta Mère" (Fuck Your Mother) , a name they used when they did graffitti during the 80's , that they decided not to give up , due to the controversy it was bringing .
Four years ago , I discovered the beautiful voice of Leslie Feist during the first part of the concert of the frenchgroup Air . It was during the first part and the place was far from being soldout . She was pretty good on stage live in front of two or three dozens of persons , but unfortunately for her , most of the audience was eagerly waiting for the main course , while others were arriving .
I was pretty happy to eventually get her album a year later , when she managed to be recognised as a talented artist .
Her latest effort The Reminder seems to have convince the doubters . Or was it the advertisement for the iPod Nano ?
