Seine Saint Denis Style ...

|

The Supreme NTM , probably the most recognized Rap group in France , is back . Created in 1988 the group is mainly composed of two incredible MC's JoeyStarr & Kool Shen , both born in the "département" of Seine-Saint-Denis also named after its zip code the 9-3 ( Le neuf trois ).

The group has instantly found success on the ever growing french hip-hop scene . With lyrics againt racism and social differences , the duo quickly became the voice of the ghetto , relying the violence of the french ghetto . Accused of lobbying for violence & riots , they later decided to address a message of peace to the youth , like in "Pose Ton Gun" (Leave you gun).

They eventually ended the group career in 1998 with their latest album under their own label , each member creating a crew and a streetwear brand (2 High for Kool Shen , Com8 for JoeyStarr) .

In 2001 they promoted a "duel" between both crews , but without the same success .

The group is recognized for its realistic lyrics , dark and sometimes violent , but also for the contrast between both MC's , JoeyStarr using a slow flow , with a deep agressive voice , and Kool Shen delivering clever or more poetic words with a quicker rythm .

For information the name « NTM » comes from the slang "Nique Ta Mère" (Fuck Your Mother) , a name they used when they did graffitti during the 80's , that they decided not to give up , due to the controversy it was bringing .

A little summary of what they did :

Affirmative Action (featuring Nas)

Le monde de demain

C'est arrivé près de chez toi

Qu'est-ce qu'on attend

Laisse pas trainer ton fils

J'appuis sur la gachette

That's my people

Tout n'est pas si facile

Pass pass le ouinj

Le pouvoir

Pose ton gun

La fievre

Ma Benz

La Seine Saint Denis , c'est de la bombe bébé !
